Floodlit

Floods continue to rise, blocking many of the footpaths, the ground gets soggier and stickier, and on this particular evening there was heavy rain being blown into my face (at least on the way home) by a strong icy wind. And, thanks to a late start and black clouds, it was dark by the time we trudged back up the field track leading to the Lane. This particular pool is by the bridge leading into the next village, where the fields commonly overflow onto the road. It was one of those walks that was a duty rather than pleasure, and I had a fleeting thought that maybe living and walking around a suburban park may be quite nice, with all those nice clean surfaced paths. But it was a very fleeting thought, especially when I was home with towelled-but-still-damp-and-smelly dogs at my feet, in front of the log burner, with the rain hammering on the roof, and a glass of wine to accompany dinner. I felt that I’d earned it.
What a wonderful scene you conjure up, especially the bit at home! I had a horrid walk too today with rain and wind and so did my daughter! Nice shot to illustrate your description with comforting reassuring house lights visible.
