The old barn, as we call it, by the field track behind our house. I’m not sure what its original use was, but the building now has only two complete walls, no roof, and now it only shelters shrubs, part of a fallen tree and a lot of ivy. I’m not sure what this item attached to the wall is, or was. Until a few weeks ago the branches of the tree protruded up above the tops of the walls, but recent winds have blown them off of the almost horizontal trunk. Someone has neatly stacked some of the smaller pieces. It has been tempting to take them home for firewood, but I think that I’ll leave them for the wildlife – I have seen grass snakes close the barn from time to time, and they will appreciate the cover. Since the pile of logs is hidden away, out of site from the passing footpath, I guess that was the intention of whoever stacked them
