Spring collides with winter

Heavy, but wet snow, overnight has stuck to trees and hedges, disguising any signs of spring. These male alder catkins look as though they have been dragged from the freezer. I think that the yellowish tinge to the snow on the small seed cones is pollen from the catkins, although I’m surprised that it hasn’t been washed off of the catkins and out of the air by the heavy snow, that was still blowing sideways throughout this morning’s dog walk.
Beautifully observed, the catkins are amazing, like little lollipops! A lovely image although I say so through gritted teeth because it's the same here and I am so tired of the cold!!
