I joined a group of friends at the “Battle Proms” at Althorpe House in Northamptonshire on Saturday. We picnicked under warm evening sun, being entertained by a modern version of the harmonies of the Andrews Sisters, before Cavalry Officers from the Napoleonic wars made an appearance, including this gentleman seated high on his magnificent horse. We able to say hello to horses and riders before they all started charging around slicing off the heads of the poor enemy infantry. Well, ok, they sliced a cabbage on a pole, but it was very exciting. This was followed by an aerial display by a Spitfire, before the concert proper started, which included the obligatory flag waving Pomp and Circumstance and Jerusalem and the bouncy-clappy Sailors Hornpipe. And, of course a grand finale with canons and fireworks.
What was this major event called! I'm surprised I haven't read about it! This guy looks so nice, I'm sure I could have a conversation with him in spite of his uniform!
