About half of my 8 mile cycle route into work is along the Great Central Way, a surfaced walking and cycling path along the original Great Central Railway route. I’ve been using this route for over 16 years, and over this time it has gradually subsided in places, which, together with occasional potholes, and meant a bit of a roller-coaster commute. At last the path is being resurfaced, but this has meant a diversion for cyclists, who have to drop down to cycle alongside this river, the River Soar, to join a main road before returning to the peace of the cycle way closer to the city centre. I am looking forward to the path reopening, and a smoother cycle to and from work.
