Most of the gardens along the Lane have mature trees of many varieties. Many of them are varieties also found in the surrounding countryside, such as oaks and silver birch, but in the garden environment they are complemented by trees that in this area are more common in gardens, such as mountain ash and laburnum. In the pale light of a low wintery sun illuminating the foliage against a dark sky the different varieties provide contrasting shades and colours not usually seen in natural woodland or hedgerows.
