This Kniphofia (or “red hot poker”) stem should be almost as tall as me, as its predecessor from the same plant was a couple of weeks ago, but thanks to a kinky stem the blossom is less than a meter above the ground. The plant is in our front garden, and replaced a Kniphofia that had bright yellow blossoms, which were certainly eye catching, or at least those that came to fruition were eye catching. Unfortunately the yellow blossoms were usually nibbled, and by the time that they were mature, the tall stem was capped by what can only be described as a miniature half eaten corn-on-the-cob. I’m not sure who the culprit was – possibly mice, or more likely earwigs.
