These were growing around the quarry edge, effectively in quarry waste, crushed granite mixed with topsoil. Poppies seem to thrive in this open well drained area, although this is the only patch of purple blooms. Maybe something in the soil? Or may be a form of hybrid? Or maybe someone will tell me that they are not poppies at all!
