On two consecutive nights this week I have had a meteorologically challenging evening dog walk.
On Monday I headed up around the quarry edge. There were a few dark clouds on the horizon – nothing to worry about, and so I didn’t take waterproofs. We reached one of the higher, more exposed stretches of the footpath, and I could see the distant countryside gradually disappearing. I hoped that the rain might pass us by, but I soon realised that even the closer fields were disappearing as the rain swept towards us, and within minutes my face was being stung by heavy rain driven on a gusty wind.
On Tuesday our route took us alongside a high hedge, and so the dark clouds sneaked up on us. I was as far from home as I could be when torrential rain soaked us, and kept soaking us, only stopping just before we got home. Even the dogs weren’t impressed.
On Wednesday and today I took waterproofs –and the sun kept shining
