This somewhat urban-flavoured shot was taken at a similar place as yesterday’s shot, but looking down towards the quarry behind Croft Hill. The “smoke” is steam from the coating plant that coats gravel chippings with bitumen, to turn them into “roadstone”. Having a quarry on your doorstep may not sound like fun, especially when the house rattles at blasting time, as it did at lunchtime today, but it is thanks to the quarry that we have acres and acres of well managed public accessible countryside all around us, including Croft Hill.
