Aylestone Meadows, the route for this morning's dog walk, is a green wedge of wildlife connecting the South Leicestershire countryside with Leicester City Centre. My cycle route to work, the Great Central Way, runs through it, as does the River Soar and Grand Union Canal. Our meandering route took us along boardwalks, woodland glades and winding footpaths, and we took photos of fishermen, narrow boats and a confident heron, but this urban shot was taken where the green wedge narrows as it approaches the city centre.
