I meant to post this one before now! The girl child is a natural artist and has been since she could hold an artist utensil. For Christmas 2018, the child’s 3rd Christmas, Santa started looking into all kinds of materials for her, and got the bright idea that Santa herself might actually be able to pursue some of those lifelong desires she has secretly harbored despite the criticism she received as a child ...
So I began painting in Oct 2018 with acrylics and learning to draw and paint with YouTube tutorials. Oils would have been my preferred medium, but the expense and mess were more than I wanted to deal with, and I absolutely turned my nose up at watercolors. But I was in love with those acrylic paints! I found myself doing stuff I never dreamed I could do, and my heart was overwhelmed with joy!
Then Oct 2019 rolled around, and suddenly I wanted to try watercolors. No apparent reason, but I thought I’d experiment with them using some of the girl child’s watercolor sets. And I AM ABSOLUTELY HOOKED!!! I love the way those paints whoosh across the paper! I love the way the water makes those colors bleed and flow! I love the way the lights and darks play against each other! I love the scratchy feel of good 100% cotton paper! I’ve got a long way to go learning this medium, but I AM learning and I’m kicking all those childhood memories to the curb!
I’m so grateful for this new creative outlet. I miss my days of running out the door and jumping in my car with my camera anytime I wanted to, but little people have a way of restricting that freedom. Painting can be done whenever there’s a free moment (as if there ARE any free moments!) day or night, and these days that’s a huge plus. The only bummer is that you have to replenish supplies, unlike photography, and that cotton paper gets pricey. I’m always on the lookout for sales and coupons!
What a lovely story. I am so pleased you have found a more accessible way to feed your inner spirit when time allows. Maybe one day soon you will have more time to get back into photography but in the meantime I think you have found a perfect way to have some 'me time'
I love the composition and colors. I also love your story and how watching your little ones grown opened new explorations for you and your creativity. Enjoy!
@shesnapped When I print using alternative processes (palladium or cyanotype) I like to use cotton rag paper and must order on line. I do sew now and then as well. I make fleece socks for family. My painting skills are minimal at best but, who knows.
Hope you are keeping well.
