The rain moved in today so I am posting this one I took late in the day on the 9th. My Amish neighbor and 3 small helpers taking the hay to the barn. They don't bail hay like the "English" (as they call us) farmers.
Skip that is a great shot. I love to go to Ohio's Amish Country and watch what happened in another time. They go though so much work! But it sure makes for a fine picture. And I really like that you didn't really catch their faces. I try to honor that.
@cdonohoue - Thank you Cathy! I hope you get to make it some time. I was old by my neighbors some time ago, that they don't mind so much you talking picture of the young children, but once they take the vow to follow the Amish lifestyle they don't want you taking their pictures. I always ask before taking the children's picture just to keep the peace. I very very rarely take their picture.
What a beautiful capture of a simpler, but much harder life than we face. That they can still follow their beliefs in these advanced times is nothing short of a miracle. I love your processing...gives it wonderful colours.
@lynnb - You are so right Lynn. The Amish are hard workers and very honest! It is amazing to watch them on a barn raising. They walk around on top of a barn like they are walking on the ground. Or at least it seems that way!
@grannysue -Thank you Linda!!
I think the world saw just what kind of people the Amish really are after the terrible shooting in Nickel Mines, PA on October 3, 2006. Not only did they forgive the shooter they supported the family he left behind. http://www.cbsnews.com/2100-500202_162-2622842.html
