It looks like a St Andrew's Cross Spider to me but it goes by other names in other countries including corn spider, writing spider and wasp spider. Very cool shot! 8)
@sparkle - Thank you Juliette!! I don't particularly like spiders either, but I know from past experience this type isn't aggressive and doesn't mind you getting close to try and take its picture!

@lynnb - I thought it was the underside of a garden spider, but they are yellow and black like on top.
