And They Built An Altar by skipt07

And They Built An Altar

Throughout the Old Testament the children of Israel would build altars as a memorial whenever God would do a mighty work in their lives to remind them and future generations of God's faithfulness as well as for worshiping God. Persons unknown built this along the Shenango River bed. For what reason, I have no idea, but it looked interesting.
Beautiful

Looks like a try at an Inuksuk...this is an Inuit statue used to help guide people I believe. It was the symbol of the 2010 Winter Olympics.
Your photo is beautiful....the processing gives it a wonderful feel.

@greyfeather - Thank you GreyFeather!! I use a couple programs to edit or enhance some, but not all of my photographs. For this one I used Photomatix to bring out the detail in the stones and the blue of the water and sky.

@nyusha - Thank you very much Anna!!

@sassik - I am glad you liked it Sassik!! I was surprised to find this. It is the first I have seen where I live. The other thing it that where this was built is normally under water. With the very dry conditions throughout the summer the water level is extremely low. One day when rainfall returns to normal this will be out of sight.

Lyn
there's that wonderful word: Inuksuk. We've always called these "cairns" when running across them on hikes.

@lyno - I saw them listed by both those names when researching them.
