I looked out my window and saw that the suet was gone and there were a couple of woodpeckers sitting in the tree looking at the empty feeder. I no sooner shut the door after placing a new cake in the feeder when they surprisingly flew down to eat. Normally the Downy and Hairy Woodpeckers don't come right to the feeder that quickly. They seem to want to make sure it is safe.
@danette - That you Danette!! The male Downy and Hairy Woodpeckers have a red spot on the backs of their heads. We do occasionally get a Rose Breasted woodpecker at the feeder. The have red heads.
