Temp -9 Wind Chill -32

A so-called "polar vortex" of dense, frigid air descended upon much of the U.S. early Monday, dropping temperatures in some parts of the country to near-record lows.
Looks like you are chillin' out by a toasty fire! Love that warm glow! Supposed to be zero here tonight!

Wonderful warming shot!

Just reading your update and whilst I have not lost someone I have been looking after my grandchildren for for the last 2 and half years, whilst my daughter studies ~ this role took on extra responsibilities last year when she and her partner split back in February ~ it is undeniably hard and time consuming, but the most rewarding thing I have ever done in my life... I wish you and your family a wonderful 2014!

Your fire feels warm! I like the colours and texture.

@alisonp - Thank you for the well wishes! Good for you Alison! Going from being empty nesters to playing an integral part in the lives of your grandchildren can be very challenging. I am glad to see that you have taken it on with such an attitude and can embrace the value of what you are doing in their young lives!

Good to see your post--this is such a pretty, shot. Those of us in the "polar vortex" need to keep thinking warm thoughts. Wonderful image!

I hope the vortex isn;t causing you any major problems. News reports make it look terrible.
But this shot looks very nice. Love a good roaring fire.

@stevecameras - We survived with no problems other then the frigid weather. I saw that some parts of he US got snow and high winds on top of the cold temps. We got the cold, but fortunately very little snow and the winds were moderate with gusts up to 35 mph.

@skipt07 OK cool, good to hear! :)
January 10th, 2014
Cold...eh! We had one day in December where our city was the coldest place on EARTH!! Now we're good again! Hope the freeze lifts soon for you too.
January 11th, 2014
@lynnb - The extreme cold lasted two days. Today it was 40F 4C and the rain is supposed to move in. So everything will turn into a soggy mess.
