I watched this young lady for awhile as she would fly to the ground, grab a sunflower seed and then return to the trunk of this bush. She would place the seed in the crack in the bark then she would peck it and open the shell. I did a number of shots before I finally caught her in flight. I was hoping to catch her with her wings spread. Oh well, maybe the next time.
@monkeykid - It does look that way. The ground is only a foot below the crack in the bark, so she probably only flapped her wings one or two times at the most to reach her destination, which is one thing I found entertaining about her doing this over and over.
