Why did I give it this title? Because a male Cardinal's call sounds much like that. And I have to agree with him. As the bitter cold returns to the area 8° (-13C) with the wind chill -16° (-27C) many birds have returned to the feeders. I sat in my car in the driveway which got me a lot closer to the feeders when he showed up.
Fabulous red color and framing of this pretty bird! We see many cardinal shots here on the 365 and this one is the best I've seen all winter! FAV, of course! (Congrats on the Trending page, Skip!) Temps are supposed to be around 8 degrees here, too.....burrrrr.
Fabulous shot! Got to love the bright red cardinals but it is difficult to get them without a distracting background as you have here. It took me a while to figure out that it was the male Cardinal who produced that "Pretty pretty pretty " call. He only seems to do it when he is very high up in a tree and in the summer, he was always well hidden by the leaves.
@gardencat - Guess what Joanne? When I walked outside this morning and the temperature was 5 degrees I heard a male cardinal up in a tree singing, "The pretty pretty pretty." So they don't just do it in the summer.
