Two years ago we had an early Spring. This Magnolia tree was in full bloom in March and it was loaded. Here we are this year in May and it is very sparse. Here is a link to a March 23, 2012 photo. You can easily see the Magnolia tree to the right. http://365project.org/skipt07/365/2012-03-23
LOVE these. We have two trees of them in our new place. Ours bloomed out a few weeks ago, though. Love that house/building in the other shot. Lovely light here!
Nice magnolia shot. I have a yellow one which opens later than the pinks but it also is even later than normal this year, the buds are still really tight...we really do seem to be having a delayed spring.
Magnolias are such beautiful trees, one of my favourites. Our spring was early this year and because we had such a mild winter the garden is full of flowers which we wouldn't usually see until much later. This is very pretty, looks great against the dark background.
@milaniet - Thank you Milanie! They are quite sensitive to the cold too. Last year was another year that winter didn't want to give up its icy grip. We finally got a warm spell and the magnolias opened only to be greeted by subfreezing temperatures which turned all the blossoms brown.
@kwind - Thank you Kim for your kind comment and fav!
Love them...ours is the same color. Does your bloom twice? Ours blooms before the leaves come on. Then again later in the summer after the leaves come on...not quite as heavy, but still pretty. Love capture, great light and comp. FAV
@eyesmile - It seems to me that last year they did. Two years ago the trees and bushes were loaded but we got a frost and wiped them out. But I believe they did bloom again later, but not as many blooms as the first time.
@amandal - That is interesting that you are that much farther head of us since you are only a few degrees south of us.
@gardencat - I don't think I have ever seen a yellow magnolia. All the ones around here are pink.
@soboy5 - Thank you so much Danny!
@dmward - You are so kind Diane. Thank you!
@paulaw - Thank you Paula! Hopefully next winter it will be our turn to have a mild one! Not that it is the cold so much as it is the heating costs :)
@mtpagano - Thank you Michelle!
@danette - Thank you Danette! I don't know if botanists have created a variety that is hardy enough for the north or if they are natural.
@kwind - Thank you Kim for your kind comment and fav!
@paulam - Your are very kind Paula! Thank you!
