Stan Hywet Hall and Gardens III

This is part 3 of a 12 part series.
The manor house is 64,500 sq, feet, and contains; 65 rooms, 23 bathrooms and 23 fireplaces. In addition to the fireplaces, the manor had a coal fired boiler. It was interesting to see how the architect hid the radiators from sight in the important rooms. Some of those rooms were the Reception Room, a Linenfold Hallway, the Round Room, a Solarium, a Music Room, West porch, Dining Room, Great Hall, a Billiard Room and a large Library.
Beside being the home for Frank, his wife Gertrude and their six children, it was also a gathering place for Akron's community leaders, and the nation's distinguished political, industrial and cultural figures of the era. Among the long list of famous visitors were U.S. Presidents Taft, Coolidge and Harding; Helen Keller, Thomas Edison, Shirley Temple and the von Trapp family, from the Sound of Music fame, to name a few.
I have just read up about this huge manor house - not quite a castle but just as big! It seems to be a National Treasure! This part is just a small part of it but very beautiful!

@maggiemae - It has a lot of history to learn about. In a lot of ways it isn't like a castle, however even with all those fireplaces and a steam heat system, they still hung draperies on the walls to cut down on drafts, much like in castles.

@kerristephens - Thank you Kerri!

@judithdeacon - We enjoyed our tour very much. When you see the decor with our own eyes it is unbelievable.

@kwind - We saw in the brochure that the "nook and Crannies" tour is at least and hour and a half long. Our shorter tour took about that long. But our guide was so interesting it didn't seem like it. If you happen to make a trip to Ohio and have some free time, you'll have to do a tour.

@milaniet - Thank you Milanie! I found the history of the manor and the Seiberling family quite interesting.

@mzzhope - Thank you Hope!

@mittens - Thank you Marilyn! I am glad you are enjoying it.

@ziggy77 - Tank you so much Jo!

@mtpagano - Thank you for your 'awesome' comment Michelle! It is! I am afraid my photos doesn't do it justice.

@quietpurplehaze - Thank you Hazel!

@eyesmile - Thank you so much Gena!
