Last night was the first day of the 2014 Balloon Quest in Union Township, Pa. Five hot air balloons were inflated and the pilots lit their balloons (glow) to music being played by a DJ. It was announced that today 19 balloonists were to take part in a launch. No balloons left the ground last night. The fascinating thing is that you would think that all balloons would light up and glow the same, but they don't. Evidently not all fabrics allows the light to shine through the same.
Wonderful color, light and love the shadows... just read your updated bio... I am so happy your daughter is doing well. I understand about the time constraints during certain seasons of life. I, too, have been sporatic posting and commenting... I will be happy to see you here whenever time allows...
Funny if you think about it you have found a something to photograph that is not a flower but all those balloons could be symbolically like a beautiful garden.
@kwind - Oh I found your weakness! I am glad you like it. It's hard to pare down to one shot from over a hundred.
@calm - Thank you for your gracious comments Cathy! She still has those moments when she misses him of coarse, but over all she seems ready to move on.
@bella_ss - They didn't launch since it was dark. The launch was the next day. They use to offer tethered rides, but no longer. I wonder if it has to do with liability?
@joansmor - I do seem to have an overwhelming attraction to flowers. Good point though!
@gilbertwood - Thank you so much Denise! My wife has a balloon ride on her bucket list, but it's hard to find anyone who has a balloon willing to giv rides any more.
What a really neat event - you sure did a great job on capturing the wonderful light and color. Great crowd. Those balloons look so huge next to the people.
@milaniet - Your comments are much appreciated Melanie! I have been toying with the idea of making a collage of the steps of setup and inflating. One of the photos is of the balloon on the ground while cold air is being blown into the balloon. You get a better idea of the size of the balloons.
This picture makes this activity look like such an exciting one. The glowing colors, the intrigued audience, the energetic flames — it all makes for a great image.
@quietpurplehaze - I haven't seen many airborne balloons. We usually attend the glow each year, but they never launch because of it being dark. My wife has wanted to go for a ride, but it seems as though the owners either don't want to give rides or the insurance policies for them to offer rides are prohibitive.
@monkeykid - Thank you so very much Therese, If you noticed the Exif that I shot this at 49mm which I believe 50 or 55mm is about what the human eye sees. This is what I could see at my vantage point.
This is so beautiful. A fav for sure! Thanks for your kind fav on one of my older shots-Pond in the Wild. It was nice of you to stop by. I see we have many of the same followers and friends, so will add you to my list.
