Nicely taken Skip...I always called them Thistle flowers to which they are very similar! You have the right of it. I was reading that some Knapweed species exude a chemical that doesn't allow other plants to grow close by. This has ruined acres of rangeland apparently.
@lynnb - Thank you for the wonderful comments Lynn!! And thank you for the info. I didn't think I'd find out what it was because I was looking under the section of lavender/blue instead of pink/red. There was a bumblebee enjoying the few flowers in this bunch, but I didn't get a good photo of him on the flower
