In trying to counter the wind when taking last night's photo I had boosted my ISO to maintain my depth of field. It was dusky again when I shot tonight's photo and I neglected to take the ISO off of 3200 (I usually try to maintain 100). The result? Noisy, noisy, noisy.
I can't count the times I'm messed up a shot because the camera was left set for a far different lighting situation. Bare in mind there are filter settings that actually intentionally add graininess (something I don't quite get as I expend a lot of energy and thought trying to keep that ISO around 100 myself). Pretty composition of these flowers, with the one leaning out to fill the lower corner.
Believe it or not, that fair ride (Spin Cycle) was full of people! You just can't see them. I know they're there and still can't make out even a hint of a human on the ride. Maybe they evaporate for a blip and and I just happened to capture that moment. Ha. Good luck on your fair shots — you can do it! Mine was hand held which is why the lines are a bit wavy in the middle and disonnected around the upper edge. I did a little color editing to make the inside less dark, but that's about it. Lookin' forward to seeing yours.
Well I reckon there is a very strong @lyndemc influence in this shot Ron and yes, I have the same problem forgetting to check settings before I get trigger happy
@pcoulson Admittedly there are times when noise is cool. Maybe this is one of them. I was looking at the new Nikon D810 today, which can be boosted up to an ISO setting of 51,200 (yikes!). But with a resolution of 36 megapixels, it might still be possible to get a good shot.
As I mention to Peter above, I guess there are situations where noise is desired and appreciated. But I guess I'm swayed by the fact that I failed to reset for the exposure. Inexcusable when the ISO reading is sitting there staring at me right in the viewfinder. Grrr.
You'll have to hold on for a bit for my fair shots - we don't open for a week or so. My goal: lighted spinning things and fried things. I think we also have some John Denver and Tony Orlando tribute bands coming in too.
@stray_shooter Had a look at the Nikon D810 info, not available in UK until the end of the month, looks fantastic what a low light ISO rating, I go through a routine the next time I pick up my camera and check the setting and still get it wrong, mostly take the first few shots and find the card in still in the laptop, keep spares in my bag for this eventuality, Jenny will say have you checked you have a card in very annoying;)
