Post sunset long exposure of Laguna Beach, playing with white balance a bit to give the photo an orange hue. It's really rare to get such a reflection on the ocean. Try it on the black background.
OMG Ron!!! That's as good a photo as you'll see of Southern California! I know the spot exactly and it would decidedly be worth the drive down there in the hope of getting something even half as beautiful as yours! Maybe I can talk Ken into letting me weave it into a weekend getaway!
My first thought was that something was on fire! Then I calmed down and enjoyed the amazing view that's bathed in a warm glowing light. Cool effect you achieved. I feel bad for you having to spend time in such an ugly place. Ha.
@Weezilou Yeah, it's not exactly a unique vantage point, but it shows how you can vary an image with light and camera settings. Some guy came up to me and was bragging about how he got the same shot on his iPhone. Right!
@pcoulson Thanks, Peter. Yeah, nailed it as one of 40 or so shots with a variety of settings. It's amazing how much latitude you have in the evening with regard to time. This was a full minute and a half - very fortunate that the people in the foreground didn't move during that time.
@lyndemc Unfortunately some portions of the shot actually were on fire a couple of decades ago, but all is in order now. Yes, it is tough to have to reside in such a picturesque locale - I suppose. I actually have to journey a bit to get to Laguna Beach, but it's well worth the trip!
@terryliv Cool, glad somebody took my suggestion! I like to put pictures that I like alot on the black background to see how they differ. Thanks for the comments, Poppo!
@stray_shooter PLEASE do not apologize for that vantage point! It's as pretty a sight as can be! I won't add much, but I know the reaction I'd have (like you) if I'd set up to good equipment and Mr iPhone brags that he did just as well...(Actually, I'd say, "Oh, that's really nice..." and go about my business... YOU, m'friend, came away with an image that shows the time and thought you gave to your photo! (Oh, and since seeing this picture, and knowing I've been there, I've been wracking my addled brain to recall who was along with me! I can visualize "people", but I can't recall who they were!) (Damned aging process...)
That is an amazingly beautiful view and photo! The coloring just adds to the whole effect. Simply beautiful, Ron. And, yes, it is outstanding against the black background.
