I was happy to see that the newborns on my front porch not only have survived so far, but they are growing quickly. The small nest doesn't seem to be a problem - yet. Their eyes are still closed, but I expect they will be opening any day now.
You obviously have a marvelous vantage site from which to get your photos! At about this point I begin to get nervous (for them) that they'll outgrow the nest before they're ready to fly! Your close clarity is just wonderful!
Excellent photo of this precious little nest and its occupants. And welcome back home. I bet CA feels wonderful compared to the frigid South you just left behind. Glad this littler hummers have remained safe in your absence.
@Weezilou I'm worried too! When I checked on them last night I thought I detected some "expansion" in the nest - they are beginning to move around now - and I think the eyes are opening. Exciting!
@lyndemc Thanks for the welcome home - and it looks like I got out just in time! Another bashing today. We got belted with rain yesterday/last night, but that was nothing compared with what I saw throughout the country today. Whew! My little pals continue to grow and fascinate - I'll keep you updated. :-)
@terryliv You bet - I'll bet you've been through this numerous times. I was relieved to see that they were protected from and unaffected by the heavy rains last night. Great to watch nature at work!
