Fire Damage by stray_shooter

Fire Damage

Glacier National Park was not immune to the fires ravaging the western U.S. The main road through the park, Going To The Sun Road, had been closed for several weeks due to a large fire. They happened to open it back up while I was there, and the damage was extensive. Here is one of the photos I took as we rode through the still smoldering area. Not being permitted to stop, I had to shoot what I could as I rode.
You can now see a view you wouldn't have - but sadly fire has re-opened this view.

Do the pines/firs survive and regrow Ron?

Oh how sad. It's a comfort to see green trees on the far side of the lake though — good to know it's not ALL burnt to a crisp. Great on-the-go photography.

Great shot, but it is devastating to see the fire damage. Hope they can come back again. Our native trees always seem to come back again after fire.

@gilbertwood Yes, it's not the most ideal way to gain a new perspective. Nice to see some color among the blackness though.

@terryliv Not sure when/if they will come back Terry. A similar fire that ravaged much of Yellowstone 20 or so years ago has shown no signs of regrowth up to this point. My friend remarked that we would likely not see regrowth within our lifetimes (which I sort of hope is quite a while).

@lyndemc Thanks, Denise. In the grand sum of things, the fire did not destroy a whole lot, but it's unfortunate that it did take out so much of the area that's accessible and enjoyed by the public. I think I rode through the whole 20 mile area one-handed!

@simta Пожары являются везде прямо сейчас. Нет воды, большой жары. Сочетание плохих. В последнее время она становится лучше, но там было много ущерба.

@onewing Thanks Babs. As I mentioned to Poppo, the trees damaged by fire in Yellowstone have not come back so quickly. Fingers are crossed in hopes that these do come back soon. It's such a pretty area.

Such a beautiful spot, and we can see the mountains through the trees now.

A beautiful photo , Ron, but always so sad to see the likes of this... Being on a news hiatus, I'd heard talk of the fires in CA, but this is my first news photo...
