The title is the name of the road. Yes, it's officially called Going To The Sun Road, and it's a pretty appropriate name, although it's actually named for the adjacent mountain of that name. Legend has it that the God of the Blackfoot Indians, Sour Spirit's image can be seen in the mountain. He is said to have gone to the sun after teaching the Indians to fish and hunt. It is likely the most spectacular road I've ever had the pleasure to take the Harley on.
To the right, around the curve in the road, is a beautiful waterfall, the close-up version of which can be seen in my August 16 photo: http://365project.org/stray_shooter/photo-a-day-15/2015-08-16
Isn't Glacier absolutely gorgeous? This is an awesome shot of the beauty of it. Are you on your bike this trip??? But how is the smoke. We're back after our 2 1/2 month RVing. Didn't get to Glacier this trip. We were on Yellowstone and the Tetons ten days to two weeks ago, and the fires were causing all kinds of havoc. The usually magnificent Tetons weren't so much for us this time.
@gilbertwood Thanks for the comment Denise. Hey, why don't you join Terry and come over and visit? I'd love to see what you do with the unbelievable scenery at this place.
@aglennc Glacier is just unbelievably gorgeous, Anita! My first time, and definitely not my last. I did the trip last month, and the fire that closed Going To The Sun Road had been put out, but the road was still closed at Logan Pass. However on my last day there, it was opened up. Still some smoldering, but no raging fire any more. Sorry your view of the Tetons was so badly affected by the troubles there. What a summer, huh?
