Flamingo Friday - 019 by stray_shooter

Flamingo Friday - 019

Wanna make somethin' of it pal???

What I learned in taking this photo: Flamingos are not necessarily happy to have their picture taken.
Makes Me Smile :) FAV

...so there's a followup as to what happened once you'd snapped the photo? This one's eating a healthy diet!

How on earth do they pick up their food with a bent beak like that!
January 7th, 2017
Doesn't he look 'down in the mouth'!
January 7th, 2017
He bent his beak severely after he attacked the previous person who took a photo of him

@Weezilou Yeah, the followup is I quickly made my exit! He is quite robust in his color, isn't he? I was talking to one of the caretakers here once and she was telling me about the mix they feed them (this is from the SD zoo). I forget the details, but I was always under the impression that it was because they eat shrimp, and while that's partially true (the shrimp are like little tiny organisms in the water, not like what we see in the butcher's case at Ralph's), they also have a special additive to the feed that enhances the color a bit.

@maggiemae Actually, they turn the beak upside down and scoop up the water that way. I'm sure I have some shots where they're doing that. Maybe a future Flamingo Friday will feature such a pose!
January 8th, 2017
@cottiac Ouch, that's awful!
January 8th, 2017
@terryliv Ha ha! Could very well be. I should have known by the little cameras etched into his beak.
January 8th, 2017
@jorlam Thanks so much! Got lucky with that expression.

@onewing Thanks very much Babs. It's fun taking these shots and then seeing later what kind of crazy poses and expressions you got. That's most of the fun!

@runner365 Well stated! Actually, even though I'm sure almost everyone was struck by the eye, you are the first to actually mention it. Thanks for noticing!
January 8th, 2017
@dianen Thanks for the comment Diane. I don't think I'd be happy if a guy like me was sticking a camera in my face either! ;-)
