The rain does not seem to want to let up, so I decided to see what I could do given the situation. Out to the back yard I journeyed where I noticed water dripping off of the table. I cranked up the ISO so I could go shutter priority and froze the drip at various stages.
What I learned in taking this photo: With today's cameras and the inherent high resolutions you really can crank up the ISO without fear of noise. This is hard for me to adjust to.
Fabulous...... A good eye to spot this. Really fun shots as the drip "does its thing". Hey, everyone entering Costco this afternoon when we did got a good laugh. Just inside the entrance was a large display of rain barrels. Really! $69.00. Like we've had the first good rain in two years (?) and now we are supposed to purchase rain barrels...... In southern CA??????
@888rachel I cranked the ISO up to 1250 in this case Rachel. It was only when I got home when I realized that I had grabbed the old D600 by mistake, which has an even lower resolution than the D750 and much lower than the new A7 RII. Still came out pretty good, but on shutter priority it stopped down so much that my depth of field was about a quarter inch it seems. And yes, I shot on continuous....after attempting in vain to time the shot. There are some wonderful advantages to shooting digital in such situations. ;-)
@maggiemae I did take a series of continuous shots Maggie. And I discovered the limitations of the camera buffer. I have a reasonably fast card, I think it's 90 mb/sec or so, but still after 15 shots or so you're locked out of any additional captures until all of the data is written to the card. Luckily the rain kept up, allowing me multiple attempts between buffer fills.
@tigerdreamer Thanks Karen. I was going to do indoors too, but wandering around in the back yard this caught my attention and I decided to go with it. Not a good decision given the cold I am fighting, so I think you chose the better option.
@stray_shooter Hey, we might reconsider their usefulness. Escondido has had 15 whole inches of rain in the past couple weeks. Well, that's probably about 13 inches more than we'll get for the next several years. So maybe not Little pricey to just sit around and take up space. We can use a bucket for all the rain we get.
I am amazed at your capture of those beautiful droplets. My camera is always set on continuous because I figure something good might come out of at least one picture.
@joysfocus Thanks Joy. I go back and forth on the continuous shooting mode. With the greater resolution, especially the new Sony, it's so easy to fill a card, even a 128 card! I've accidentally filled a card way before I had planned a few times already! It's frustrating to sit there and delete, delete, delete...then it's "OK everyone, let's try that again!"
@runner365 I agree. Droplets of water always seem to have some endearing charm to them - especially when you can capture a reflection in them. The shapes they make, the adhesion, all very fascinating.
@lyndemc Thanks Denise - I do believe you are the first to slap the dynamic feel label on me. ;-) As for that continuous shutter, do so judiciously. See my reply to Joy above!
