Something a little different. On the left, the Laguna Beach coastline a bit before sundown. On the right, similar perspective a bit after sundown. These were actually taken with two different cameras, two slightly different lenses, but after a little PhotoShop they came out reasonably close.
What I learned in taking this photo: There is a lot of light left in the sky after the sun goes down. The camera sees more in such cases than the human eye does.
What I learned in viewing this photo: Either my lens or my mirror needs cleaning!
Looks terrific on the Black! In the Day photo the water movement is far more obvious and almost stars in the shot! The night shot of course, is beautifully reflected and makes this photo more appealing photographically! fav
Wow, two for the price of one..
this looks like an illustration from a photographic book and, imho, it's very good..
think it's the sensor, been noticing your dust bunnies for a while.. i spend ages cleaning mine off images.. am loathed to send the camera for cleaning as i cannot be without it.. no, i dare not attempt it myself, my hands are far too shaky now.
Interesting comparison as they sit side by side what a different the light and time of day makes two great images Ron, BTW its your sensor that requires cleaning, dust on or in the lens is not usually a problem and never touch the mirror just use a puffer ball to blow it off, the sensor needs even more care:)
This is really interesting to see the difference that light makes. Both are nice shots - just different.
I also noticed that the tide was going out as you took these shots.
What a beautiful place to shoot that scene! You're learning so much from your classes! ...Loved the gathering today! I can't hazard a guess at how many shots you took... In total, I got about 1500+, and it's going to take a while to sort through them. Thanks for the fave...I thought, why even begin to try for "best of show"...who knows, this may be it! Can't wait to relive it all!
Interesting. Not sure we've even seen this, but don't know why, having liked in the area a good share of our lives...... Like the comparison between the two shots.
@redy4et Thank you Elizabeth. I had no real intention of combining them, but looking at the photos I'd taken during the day, I noticed the similar vantage point and decided to combine them. Maybe we'll catch you down at Shaw's cove some time!
@maggiemae Thanks for that suggestion Maggie. Amazing how a different background can change a photo's appearance so much. I appreciate your taking the time to comment!
@jorlam Thanks for those nice words. I never thought about it, but you are quite correct, it does look like it would fit into one of those instruction type books. As for that sensor, I'll have to break out the cleaning kit and get that baby cleaned up. I took it in once, but the cleaner showed me what to do and what not to do, so I have no problem taking on the task. (I'll let you know how that works out) ;-)
@888rachel Thanks for those comments Rachel. It was a really strange surf. The calmness captured in the darker shot is actually a bit deceiving as it would be calm, calm, calm for minutes at a time and suddenly a rogue wave would come in and scatter us all. It was frustrating because the tide pool in which the reflection was captured would just settle out to where the reflection was worthy, then BAM! another breaker would come crashing in. It's not easy shooting on the beach!
@pcoulson Thanks Peter. Yeah, as the owner of a D600 I was pretty much forced into learning how to clean the sensor. That's on my list of (many) things to do now. Thanks for the kind comments.
@lyndemc Thanks Denise. We had shot in my class a year or so prior in that same spot, and I, being the reflection nut that I am, had wandered over to a vantage point where you could see the gazebo's reflection. The teacher hadn't even noticed it, but recognized it as a good opportunity. This year when we went back (with different attendees) she announced that we had the chance to catch a really cool reflection in a tide pool, then announced that she had labeled it "Ron's Reflection Pool." Cool. I think I'll go down a plant a sign there. Thanks for your comments, as always.
@Weezilou Thank you kindly Louise. I have no idea how you can sort through over 1500 photos. I had half that and it's still overwhelming me. And now I have hummingbird babies to deal with! Wheres the Prozac?!?
@joannakate Thanks Joanna. I am coming around to your way of thinking too. Especially when viewed on black. It's surprising how cool blue hour photography can be. Long exposure times though!
@pickerandagrinner Thanks Lou. Yes, the Laguna Beach area has some of the more scenic coast around the Southern California area. Thanks for stopping over here to view and comment!
@stray_shooter Well, ain't that somethin'! Your trained eye led the class in a new direction. I'd be plantin' a sign there with your name on it, most definitely.
Beach.
