We refer to this as our Mexican Uber. We went across the border (legally this time) to go into Boquillas, Mexico. You cross the Rio Grande, which is filled with three inch deep babbling water, in a row boat, cast as the "International Crossing Ferry Service," which consists of a 14 year old Mexican boy who mostly digs up rocks as he pilots you across the river. Then to get up to the town, which is about 1km up the hill, you are offered a horse, the back of a pickup truck, or this trusty donkey. I cannot stress how difficult and embarrassing it is to try and seat one's self on the donkey. Then a small dog leads the donkey up the path to town where you get to buy special "hand made" bags, purses, and small sculptures of scorpions. It is quite the experience.
