The unusually heavy and unending rains in California this past winter, in addition to helping to relieve our long drought, resulted in one of the most lush and widespread expanse of California Poppies that I've ever witnessed in my 42 years of living here. They absolutely demanded to be photographed - and I certainly wasn't the only one. Here's my offering.
A beautiful image. When I was in Sonoma the first of the month there were poppies growing on the sides of the road going to the ranch. Everyone said they hadn’t seen that many poppies in years. Rain makes all the difference!
CA Poppies; one of my all-time favorite flowers! I remember going for walks there in S. Cal and seeing fields full of these happy orange blooms. I can only imagine how beautiful it is after all the rain you've had there.
@pcoulson Thanks Peter. The colours are so amazing that it seems the entire population of California is coming out to see them. They're actually clogging the roads so much that some are being closed to car traffic!
@louannwarren Thanks Lou Ann. Yes, everyone is excited about the poppies. Some consolation for all of that rain. Ideally we would have big rain and poppies every other year, and nice dry and warm winters and springs the other year. I'll work on that. ;-)
@lyndemc Thanks Denise. You wouldn't believe the numbers this year - and the varieties in colors. In addition to the orange ones, we're seeing white and purple too - and holy cow, the mustard plant is making all of the hill bright yellow. Stunning, but those with allergies are going to be miserable later this year.
