Tiny Home

I have been blessed once again to have been chosen as a suitable location for the birth and raising of a pair of baby hummingbirds. I wasn't able to get out and get photos earlier due to the surgery, so this was the best I could do in regard to their stages of development.
You certainly have been blessed. How fortunate to be able to watch these guys grow from so close. Lovely capture.

Wonderful Ron! Seeing the difference between this nest and our most recent one, I think our mama hummer was new to the nest-building task. This is much bigger and sturdier! And look at those adorable little fledglings! Any day now!

They look almost adult! One might push the other one out! Super focus - it will be up high!

Fabulous capture of these tiny beauties! They look almost ready to fledge. You are so lucky they chose your garden to build their home and raise their babies!

@gardencat Thanks Joanne, I'm always a little fearful that some harm will come to them. There are a lot of crows around that would attack them if they weren't so well hidden. Those mama's are smart!

@Weezilou Thanks, Louise. This one is actually "preowned." I left it in place after last year's pair departed. I'm not sure if this year's occupant is the same mother or not, but I've to guess that's the case. I'm always amazed at how they can go to Canada or wherever they go and then return to the same spot - all this without a GPS!

@bkbinthecity Thanks very much Brian.

@maggiemae Thanks Maggie. Yeah, they really end up fighting for very little space at this age. Maybe that's the impetus for departing the nest.

@pamknowler Thanks Pam. Yes, I'm truly appreciative of being able to host them.

@pcoulson Thanks so much Peter. I've got one future update, but that will probably be it. They've left the nest at this point, but that doesn't mean I'm finished with the photos!

@onewing Thanks Babs. They were indeed about to fly, and at this point they have in fact taken flight. They probably had had it with each other and the crowding issues.

@gilbertwood Thanks Denise. Yes, I'm quite lucky to have them. Another bonus to spring in California.
