alone

on saturday morning when partner and i visited the pond, only two young swans were there, this guy and his smaller sister. this morning, only this guy was in the pond, looking lost among the ducks and being swooped down by the stupid seagulls. he kept to himself in the middle of the pond, approached partner tentatively. his head was always down and would only lift it up if we tried to talk to him. partner was quite beside himself, wondering if maybe something had happened to the family.

update: monday afternoon. partner called, he passed by the pond on his way home. he's not there anymore.

i told partner that he probably had gone with another flock even though he never left the pond when his family was there. we will see when they come back before the spring. i read that swans remember the humans who are nice to them and would give them food. i know the father swan, no matter the weather, when he sees me, he'd make a beeline to come to me, even though i never give him food and i just talk to him. even when other people are feeding them, he would leave the family and would approach me, would flap his wings, before going back to his family.

needless to say, we couldn't wait till we see our friends again. is it spring yet?
Ohhh, hopefully all is well with them. Great shot.

He is so lovely, a beautiful colour. I really hope he will be alright and they all come back to the pond in the spring.

Beautiful shot, love the dappled markings on his back. Swans do migrate so I think he'll be back in the spring.

A shot full of emotion, hopefully he has flown the nest with some other swans
