magnolia blossom à la imogen cunningham

another one for the artist challenge.

sorry for my lack of commenting but i've been prepping some of my shots for printing and framing as i want to try and "audition" it to a diner at the beaches. this diner displays local artists (i.e., only from this area) and the waiting time for one's series of photos to be displayed is two years. if the owner happens to like the work it could be at least a year. it's a way for them to have a variety of decor for the restaurant. the cut, however, is about fifty percent.

the florist also told me that my photographs are really getting noticed although no sales. i was told that a sale is good, but having people inquire about my work is supposed to be fabulous. yeah? also, black and white seem to be a favourite of people. my two black and white prints always get a "i really like that one" remark. buy it, why don't they?

i'm not sure i've mentioned it but i got a lady who wants to pose for boudoir shots. so i'm looking at images on google for such shots; some are funny, some are awesome, although i don't get the reason why people would have their photos taken that way.

thank you for your kind visits and comments; know that they are truly appreciated.
Superb shot

Lovely details. I too have never understood why people want boudoir type photos. Each to their own I guess.
I have had similar feedback from the gallery where I have photos for sale. Black and white seem to be popular but handing over money seems to be scarce!

Very nice shot. Good luck with getting into the diner

This is gorgeous such depth to it. I wish I knew why people don't buy!

beautiful shot. I saw the hands you did; seems like everyone (including me) is mostly trying the botanicals. they are fascinatingly detailed.

@francoise - let me see you do the hands, please. come on! :-)

@claireuk - i think it is the mentality that with the proliferation of better-built point and shoots, people would tell themselves "i can go there and take a picture of it, or i can probably do it myself and i'll have it printed." as one who photographs and spends a lot of time with processing, i know i can't think like the audience most of the time as what seems like a simple enough landscape to shoot isn't really that simple. and that's why we appreciate one another's work because we know some kind of unusual efforts went into a particular art, be it a framed one, a card or a story. am i thinking correctly?

this is quite beautiful and an excellent one for the artist challenge... very cool that your images are getting noticed, even if no one is buying anything yet...

very beautiful image, Vikki. in reading your comment to Claire, i believe you may be correct. people may think they can re-create what they see. know many who go to craft fairs just to see things and go home to try and make them. would that not be sort of the same concept? with the high quality of cameras in cell phones these days, i think many think they have the capability to capture just about anything and then use an 'app' to fancy it up. why i get so angry that i can't take my camera to concerts and stuff but some guy stands in front of me with his phone on the whole time blocking my view, recording the entire event.

@summerfield I think you are spot on Honey. Cx

I can't buy it, but I can fav it! Actually I do think most people believe they are much better than they really are hence the look but not buy syndrome. Yes, they go home and shoot something similar, throw an app on it and say, "Oh, that's just as good as the one I saw at the florist." Those are the folks who, if they appeared on an American Idol audition, would be ripped to shreds by the judges. "Who told you could sing?!" Well, it sounded good in the shower and when I sang with the karaoke machine! Happy Snappers. But don't loose heart. Someone, someday, when you least expect it will say, "That's coming home with me!"

I know it has been more than ten days, but I just had to comment on this one.....first of all, it is fabulous, and so is the one of the hands! My life has been pretty busy, so I have been a bit lax in commenting, but that does not mean I do not see your wonderful photos, and appreciate them. I so wanted to do this artist challenge, but it just got away from me, but so enjoyed your versions of it.
As for the buying aspect of it, it is an unfortunate syndrome of our time when so many people call themselves photographers, and they really on the tools, but not on their knowledge and skills. I have met people who had the nerve to say they were photographers and tried to get gigs, but did not know an f-stop from a hole in the wall!! I am so glad you are marketing yourself....it takes work, but you are head and shoulders above others, and you definitely have your own style. Do you remember "beachradish" with the blurry, some lensbaby shots here....I ran into her at a festival with her double wide booth and printed photos, which I immediately recognized....very inspirational!! Go for it, girl....it's your time!! :-))))
