shaved white radish stewed in whole tomato broth with fish ball. i remember my mother making this a few times when my siblings and i were still young children, only without the fish ball. i was organizing my fridge's freezer and i found two packages of fish ball. must've been there for quite a few months but it still tasted good. by the time this lock down is finished, i'd have honed my filipino food of the poor cooking and i'd be ready to open my own restaurant, especializing in poor man's diet.
now where can i get clams? i've got craving for clams.
today, our mayor announced a state of emergency and the provincial premier had issued a directive for the non-essential businesses to close. our prime minister urged all canadians who had travelled recently to stay home and self-isolate. the province had almost a hundred new cases just today; the city had its first casualty, an 80-year old man.
that said, i need to go to the bank tomorrow but i suppose i can't now.
Ah, yes, isolation-time cooking -- sounds like you have a tasty dish here. You went through your freezer, I went through my pantry. I did a thorough search through it all to figure out what I had and should start using. But since I've been self-isolated for 11 days now, I envy your tomatoes, mangoes and banana . . .
@mzzhope - you'd be seeing more food photography and toronto skyline view, if the building management doesn't lock my balcony door from outside. they were supposed to start refurbishing the balcony and railings -- noise and dusts galore for the next few months. and we're supposed to stay in and not leave our homes!
@jyokota - at least you have a big house you can walk around in and not get bored. by the time this shutdown is over, i'd be like a sumo wrestler! but, we'll get through this. i might even have time to look at the other photos i've taken while visiting you last year! ooops, i just realized i'm working from home during the day. haha!
We're not yet totally confined to our homes, but I don't think it will be long before that happens. When it does there will be even more photos of bees and flowers :)
@merrelyn - do you know that in the list of "essential businesses" issued by our provincial government, beer and liquor stores are included? i suppose it's to drown their sorrows when people can't freely go out anymore.
@summerfield -- yes, I have been thankful for my house because it has enough range of activities to keep me moving from one to another, and perhaps THIS is the time I finally get serious about downsizing the STUFF in this house. Oh, do go back to your photos from last summer and tag me! I've been doing "series" from time to time . . . and you could do your "Chicago series"
I like the repeated round shapes with different colors and tones. The dish sounds interesting. Cooked radishes. I've never heard of this. Does cooking take the bite out of them? it's why I don't like them. I'm not familiar with fish balls either. Do you make them or buy them?
Interesting food by the way and a fabulous photo of it!
Keep safe - and try to keep sane!
