it's been raining since yesterday until the middle of the morning here, with very strong gusts of wind but with a rise in the temperature. in the mid-morning, though, i saw that the rain had stopped, i guessed the snow and ice on the pavements must've melted from the rain and high temps so i donned on my running shoes and went for a walk. coming out of the building compound a good portion of the street was submerged in water. some cars blatantly drove through without slowing down but most others did slow down.
there was a young man at the corner shooting photos with his cell phone. a truck passed by and the spray of water was really fantastic. a few feet away, i said 'that would've been an awesome shot, did you get it?' he replied rather embarrassingly that he did, so i asked if i could see it. well, he got just the tail end of the truck and not much water spray. i hung around for a minute and would tell him if an oncoming car would produce a good spray or not. as i only had my iphone with me, i started to take photos, too. but the drivers were cautious not knowing how deep the water was so they would slow down. this was the best i could manage.
i found out he is into drone photography and showed me a couple of his photos. as we were talking, a truck went past without slowing down producing a really big spray and we both said 'awww we missed that!' i told him about 365 when he said he was posting only on instagram and he really wanted to refine his photography. in any case, after a few minutes, i went on to continue with my walk as my body was craving the exercise.
when i came back an hour later (covered almost six kilometres) there was no power in the building. 🥴 so i ran down the 22 floors and went to meet up with my sister and had lunch downtown. i came home at 4 and there was still no power. the place was dark and i could not do anything but i didn't want to go back down. so i just sat around and read my kindle. the power only came on a few minutes ago when my laptop's power was almost nil and i was ready to post (couldn't if there was no power as it means no internet, too).
Looks like a ton of rain. But at least you didn’t have tornadoes and snow. An interesting story about your photography “friend“. So proud of you for doing the 22 flights of stairs although I know it was not something you chose. Glad to hear your power finally came back on
That's quite some puddle. Nice bow wave created by the car. I'm no stranger to power outages. We get so many that we are geared to deal with most. Although can be a problem if they go beyond 6 or so hours.
