even when the snow is at its deepest, i always find a robin or two wherever i go. when i came to canada i had this belief that the robins only come and stay in the spring and summer and fly away during fall. but i always find it fun to see birds playing in the snow, except for the darned geese.
the first time i saw a robin was during a snowstorm in my first apartment here in toronto. a pair had taken shelter in one of the empty pots in my narrow balcony. it occupied most of my waking hours watching them and i didn't dare go out on to the balcony for fear i might drive them away. directly below my balcony was a large evergreen tree and the pair would sometimes hang around there but would go back to my balcony. and then one day they were gone, just like that. bam! bam! thank you, ma'am! 😂
this is from the de winton's 2021 advent watercolour project. painted it on a blank card using watercolour, with some modifications. i sent it to an elderly lady (well, much elderly than me) from church who was hospitalized last weekend thus was unable to attend church services. she would always ask me what i had last painted or if i had been writing and always wishing she'd see either work. so i sent her the card to brighten her up while recuperating at home.
btw, i had finished the butterfly from yesterday's post.
