what a difference 31 years make! partner wanted me to post my photo, too; since he did me a favour last night. i said it was a fair deal but i would have to include the very first self-portrait i did back in 1981 with my then new minolta slr.
when i got my first slr in 1981 the first thing i had to learn was to use the self-timer. when with friends, i lose out on souvenir photos because nobody had a camera like we do these days. at parties or excursions, i would easily use up two rolls of 24 shots and i would be in only 5 photos. then everyone wanted a copy. also when looking for a job, companies require a photograph to be attached to the resumé. going to a photographer to have a simple photo taken was costly so if you have a good photo with the negative, you can just have a dozen printed and it cost cheaper. and photos like this were encouraged so the more creative you were with the photo you submitted, the likely you got called for an interview. which means if you are not photogenic, there's only a slim chance you get called except of course if you have an exceptionally impressive qualifications. that's how superficial we were in the old country, still is. :-)
the photo on the right is sooc taken with the same lighting condition and camera setting as partner's pic from last night. the photo on the left was scanned from an old colour negative and converted to black and white.
I LOVE THIS, you stepped out and even used the low key for it. I also really like that you have provided a side-by-side. Awesome shot Summerfield and I am so happy that you chose to go with a selfie!
you have such gorgeous skin. what a beautiful, beautiful photo - and i am speaking of your new one. yes, i like your old one, also. i so agree with what you said about the attached photos to resumes; never had to do that but appearances count way too much when it should be how good a person can perform the job requirements.
@trbo - well, i'm so glad you approve, travis. it was hard task but fun. thank you for the push, it opened up a whole new appreciation for shooting in black and white.
@sarasdadandmom - well i suppose 28 can be considered young although around that time people were wondering why i haven't married, and such was our culture: girls marry and raise 6 kids before they're 30. wasn't going to happen for me, na-ah! thank you, terry.
@alia_801 - thank you, alia. hmm...now that you said it, it would've probably worked better if i cut the left picture more so that they joined there'd have been no white space.
we are all too critical of ourselves. i thought i looked like a raccoon. you are very beautiful and i imagine when you and partner go out, many heads turn. you make a very impressive looking couple indeed.
LOL- have to tell you something hysterically funny! malcolm's boss offered me a JOB! i answered our phone, took a message for mal. next day he says to mal. "your wife, her voice. . ." and mal thinks in his head, here we go again. . . can't tell you how many times this has happened. so he tries to talk malcolm into talking me into being his secretary because of my voice - how ridiculous is that! mal came home and said he almost fell out of the truck laughing.
@catsmeowb - hahaha! you guessed it right. we do make heads turn when we're together but that's because he'd be yakking (he has some hearing problem so he talks loud, and he's too vain to wear the hearing aids, just like i'm too vain to wear my glasses) and i'd just be turning my head like i hear nothing or i'm in a fog. tee-hee!
ppfff, it is nothing special. sales people call and ask to speak to my mom yet men go nuts over it. i have to change my tone to make my dogs know i am serious or they do not pay me any mind at all. pain in the butt. but i did get any executive secretarial job i ever applied for, i can tell you that.
@lonewolfman - my heritage. let's see...my mother is half spanish and half filipino, my father is half filipino, a quarter chinese and a quarter japanese. that makes me and my siblings an international buffet. buffet, i love buffet. now i'm hungry, am off to find a buffet. thank you, mr. wolfman, you are very kind, sir. peace to you, too. and fav is very generous. i am flattered and so humbled.
Beautiful! But I have a hard time seeing in the shadows so next time- more light to see you better with my dear! (hehe- this is fabulous!). I love the then and now concept!
Beautiful shots of a beautiful woman - both then and now. Love the low key b&w. This get pushed challenge sounds interesting and you've met the challenge well. Congrats!
Amazing. I'm not gonna get all cheesy and quote Shakespeare or anything like that. Gonna tell it straight from the hip like my uncle used to say along time ago. Your beautiful, and age doesn't lessen beauty, only makes it greater.
