get pushed #165 - selfie à la @northy

my get pushed partner this week is joan robillard @joansmor who challenged me to emulate a shot of one of my friends here on 365 whose work i admire (that's the gist of it, as i can't find now where she posted her push to me).

i admire all of my friends here on 365 for their artistic mettle but one whose style is hard to emulate is @northy. one would think that i've seen how she works quite a few times that i would know her "secret" to her outstanding and spectacular shots. well, the secret lies deep within her mind and you only get to see its result when she has posted her photo. however, this is one of her styles that i've been dying to do - camera on the ground, her figure silhouetted by just an iota of available light. i also know she loves to photograph graffiti and things decaying or rusting.

so, at the grounds of old quebec city in the abandoned walled structure, i saw this passageway that i knew @northy would have loved to photograph. not exactly a northy worthy shot, but let's say it's like the poor relation who lives on the other side of the tracks. because no one can actually copy or emulate the original!

@joansmor - here's one i've been working on. another one coming up maybe. :-)

How funny that you assigned me an @northy and then did one yourself. Love this and It does seem like hers. Love the detail of the tunnel which is hard to get with the opening being so much brighter. Well hard for me anyways.

well done! you've got the touch!

Fabulous answer to your challenge. It is always difficult to try to emulate another photographer's style. You have pulled this one off though, in my humble opinion!

We are partners for the get pushed this coming week. I have been wracking my brain all day trying to think of a challenge and have hit a brickwall! I have pondered whether we should try our version of the same thing. Maybe choose an object that we both have and photograph it in an unusual or unique manner. What are your thoughts? Are you safely home from your travels?

A wonderful shot and one I am sure Northy would be happy with

I do believe this is representative of Northy.

So since I now have a tough act to follow, how about you doing an abstract?
September 28th, 2015
I thought of her right away...rocked this! :-)
September 29th, 2015
@salza - ack! is that shoot something that would look like an abstract or post-process it to make an abstract? :-)
September 29th, 2015
@summerfield you can do whichever you prefer. I think I might be going out on a limb here as abstracts are not really your thing. If you rather I can dream up something else.....

I thought I had already commented on this excellent image. Great northyesque shot, love the low pov and the gritty surroundings.

I am Kathy, your get pushed partner this week. I have looked through your very unique and interesting photos and would like to take you outside your style with my challenge to you. I would like you you write a six word story with an accompanying image about one of your feelings. Accept?
