These sheep have been bred on the hills around here for over 100 years. They are white with distinctive black speckles on the face and legs. They are hardy, low maintenance and well suited to grazing on rough grass in exposed area.
We are surrounded by them just now and they are in the middle of lambing. I took this picture this afternoon just over our garden wall. In a few weeks they'll be moved back up the hill again.
My children think I'm a sad person because I like sheep and I can recognise lots of different breeds!
Have watched 'Lambing Live ' I recognised these lovelies! Like you, Sue, I'm interested in the different breeds - I just love Herdwicks. (I'm hardy and low maintenance but not sure about rough grass!)
I love sheep they are such daft animals - my cousin's family own a sheep farm at Devil's Bridge and they think I am mad when I say I like sheep - to them they are a commodity.
Great shot by the way :-)
