This is the River Brathay, just below the tarn (lake) of Elter Water. From here it flows south east to Skelwith Bridge (where we're staying) and then to Lake Windermere. I walked in the rain from our hotel at Skelwith Bridge along the river to Elter Water with the intention of reaching the village of Elterwater.
