Day 1 of 365 One-Hour Diet
Observation Notes
1. Wake up and reach for iPad to check 365 messages. Decide diet of one hour doesn't include morning check-in
2. Spend morning working on proposal. Cheat twice to take a short break. Set timer to 10 minutes to check 'Home' section and view and comment. Decide timer must be broken as it went off much too soon, both times.
3. Spent early afternoon working on other project as a 'break' from proposal. Thinking about 365, wondering who has posted. Start to open site and force myself to stop.
4. Eat cookies as reward for not opening 365 site.
5. Return to proposal, legal sections. Realize I forgot one of the pages that had to be notarized. Am VERY upset and angry at myself, then think...I can walk to the notary. I can take my camera. That won't count against my hour, since I have to walk anyway. How long can a photo (or two or three) take?
6. Get camera and Form 100 and go to notary. Think about what to photograph on the way home. Have three ideas.
7. Signed document in hand, return home stopping three places to shoot. Decide this doesn't count against the hour as it is exercise, not photography.
8. Go back to proposal and work a bit more.
9. Can't help myself -- must open 365. Must start commenting. Must download my photos. Must just tweak a little. Time running out.
10. Must post...two shots to choose -- flowers in full focus, blurred chain, bright and cheerful OR chain in focus, dark textures, bright flowers just beyond line of site and blurred -- can't really see them well. Go with the latter. Chained to work today.
11. Upload
12. Create narrative.
13. Enter tags
14. Decide one hour isn't very realistic and may want to revisit. Hit Save.
I think you made the right photo choice. One hour might need to be two- one in AM, one in PM. Photo walks are good exercise for both mind and body- and trigger finger. If you need more 365 time, make hubby cook.
Gorgeous shot! I love the color of the flower through the chain. And I love the description. So funny! I have to put myself on a bit of a diet, too :-)
Great shot Taffy, love the focus on the chain and that nail and the lovely textures of the wall too! I love your narrative too and that probably would have taken me all day to write. I know that feeling of reaching for the ipad in the morning too!
Love it - the diary of a 365-er! I think you have found your passion - but you probably need the proposal to fund your mission. Love the shot - especially with the soft colorful backdrop.
@olivetreeann Already breaking my rule and replying, but had to admit that hubby does almost all the cooking! I'm very lucky and am thinking I should post a photo from this morning that shows the flowers he brought me and the chocolate donut...mmm....you always give me such good ideas! Tonite he barbequed salmon. Time to give the man his due, I guess...
Hilarious! So glad you took more than 1 hour! Oh wait, I should not be encouraging you in your obsession...well dang it, of course I'm going to encourage you in your obsession!!!! Great shot too, I really like that burst of purple flowers through the ring of the chain :)
You did great....for your first day!! and I loved your narrative. Great shot of the chain and suggestion of flowers beyond.... and the title is perfect!
LOL! Love your narrative! I can so relate! The 365 world is so darn addicting. I think I am missing the beginning this this diet. I will venture into earlier posts for the history. Love your pov here. Great shot!
Great shot and a wonderful narrative! I wonder if a recovering addicts journal might look the same... I am trying to be on the same diet, but I think I spent 5 hours on photography and 365 today.
@danielwsc Thanks for the kind comments -- I'm still totally hooked on reading my comments, viewing, commenting on others, once I open the site. If I don't open it, I'm okay but as soon as I...an hour can go by. My photography has been only opportunistic, and I'm looking forward to planning photos again soon. End is in sight!
Love the image, the thought.... guess we all need to go on a diet.... we all wake up to 365 notifications....smile and start our day...looking for a picture....along the way.... stopping here and there... your narrative is close to the heart..... lol! ;)
Your commentary is hilarious and all too familiar. I spent three hours choosing a photo to upload and looking at other people's photos trying to catch up after a week of not being able to. I have managed to get 10 minutes in during the last break of the school day to comment on a couple at least!
@thirtysevenways@amrita21 Amrita and TSW -- I'm just now getting back to normal and am glad to know that my experiences are not unusual! Lots of lessons learned from the week of my diet!
This is hilarious. I got behind this week and was only able to post. I'm finally getting to back track and look at what I missed. You're description is like looking in a mirror. Thanks for all the time you put in posting and commenting. It's people like you that make this addicting.
@sgiesman Thanks Sarah! I think it's so funny that so many of us feel this way. Yesterday and today were amazing -- like being let out of jail or something. I've taken tons of photos, spent inordinate amounts of time on the site, and now am behind again already! Sort of like binge eating...but I do feel my photography is improving!! And it's SO much fun. So thanks for the kind comment!

Great photo btw.
Like your shot too, immediately saw the flowers 'peeking' through the chain.
Day 2 of One Hour Diet...cannot help but reply to all who can relate and say 'thanks' as it's nice to know I'm not crazy all on my own! Goal for today...stop looking and commenting in 5 minutes, get to work, check by in tonite at 10:00 with two major sections of the proposal all done! Here's hoping!!
