Chicago is known as the crossroads because it has been a central transportation hub since the 1800s. This was taken looking north from Roosevelt Road. For those who have seen photos of Millennium Park, this is what it looked like until the Park was built. The tracks are still there, but below the park.
Personal update: Life is GREAT! Proposal is done 36 hours early, the city is in bloom, weather was great today, I'm off my 365 Diet (see 4/28) and it feels terrific. Back to viewing, commenting, and replying!
Great city shot- just enough grit to make it real; just enough blue sky and shiny high rises to make it enjoyable. Congratulations on a project well done!

Brenda, thanks for your congrats. Today felt so good to just hang out and do photo stuff and other normal Sunday things. And for your comment on the photo.
Edie and Elke, many thanks
RL Scott, Kim, and Al - thanks! I was going for that urban industrial / beautiful city look so appreciate your commenting on that.
@colie@jankoos Thanks Colie and Jan! I turned it in this morning and then spent an hour throwing away papers from all over my study and the kitchen/dining room. It felt great!
@archaeofrog Thanks Katie! It feels like I'm free again. I did take some liberty with the clouds in post-processing, because they actually were fairly faded. But the fact that you thought they had promise makes me feel like it 'worked.' So thank you!
What a great Chicago shot! Glad you are off your diet. I'm feeling like I'm on the diet now. We are in the middle of a construction project - I'm taking a peek at photos but haven't even posted yet. Oh well, there is always tomorrow!
This is great. I love viewing shots of your great country..it helps me to get a better understanding of it. Please show more if you get the chance or inclination :)
@barbsmith Good luck! It's hard to stay on it -- a construction project in your own home?
@kevinmckay Thanks so much Kevin! I do love our city especially -- and in about 3 weeks head to an island in the middle of Lake Michigan so my shots will show a very different side to life in the midwest. I appreciate your comment -- I feel like 365 gives me a window into so many different places and what it's like to live there.
@taffy here,s an interesting fact..the surface area of Lake Mitchigan is 20% of the land area of our entire country !! Puts things in perspective eh :)
Wow -- didn't think about it that way. I love your country, BTW! I've been twice, once for work in Aukland and once on vacation on both islands. Christchurch is such a beautiful city -- it was so sad reading about the earthquake and seeing photos. My husband and I have both described NZ as the US if you reduced the distances -- you have wonderful ocean areas, the mountains are amazing, rivers, etc.!
@foxsparrow You are so sweet to say that! I've noticed when I have made it into a final round for a challenge, my photos rarely ever get more than one or two votes, so that means a lot. There are some truly amazing shots in this set of railroad ones. I don't know that I'd even pick mine! So many thanks!
Thanks Jennifer, Alexis, Daniel, Alice, Ann, And Amrita! Such nice comments about my photo. And Amrita -- thanks for visiting my chain photo and the 365 diet report! It feels good to be 'back'!

HUGE congrats on getting the proposal in early and being able to celebrate such a great weather weekend!
Lovely view of Chicago with the tracks in the foreground. Lovely lines!
