Not much to say...it was below the trees for a long time and I wanted to take the shot as it went across Lake Michigan. But by 3:00 a.m., it was still just getting over the trees, so I took this through an opening, clicking each time the wind blew the tree limbs in a way that left me with a clear shot. I took about 40 shots so that when I do learn about stacking, I'll be able to use these files. An image of what it usually looked like, with the tree limbs blocking a clear view, is in my extras album: http://365project.org/taffy/the-also-ran-ph/2013-06-24
Cropped, of course, and sharpened a bit using Nik Suite software. Used spot metering which is the most current CSC challenge (hadn't known what it was before this challenge -- found it on my camera and was amazed at how easy it is to change metering modes).
I'd try to get rid of as much noise as possible but still maintain as much sharpness and detail as you can, especially if you want to stack them. Super attempt.
Thank you all for your great response to my supermoon shot. I appreciate your comments! Kazzy @kazlamont -- I think I was crazy to stay up so late -- in hindsight I could have just driven up the bluff and captured it that way!
Marloes @stimuloog -- I love your shots -- I think the camera is less important than the lens. Having the 70-300mm zoom is what made this possible, I think.
@frankhymus I'm 'graduating' to a full frame, though it's still in the box since arriving on Saturday. I've started reading the field guide and am excited to see what I can do with it, but suspect that it's more about learning to use the lenses differently on the full frame.
@taffy It really should be transparent. Trust the viewfinder. It might seem you don't get as much "zoom" as before, but that's because of the crop versus full frame. What camera did you settle on? The D600?
@frankhymus Yep -- the 600. A big difference seems to be in the way the menus are on the viewfinder. I probably won't start using it regularly til I'm back from a quick work trip on Sunday. I'm thinking of leaving my zoom on the D90 as it will give me a longer lens than when used on the D600, and use the 600 for the rest -- I'm pretty excited about having a full frame!
@tajyob Thanks taj! @colie Thanks so much Colie. Re 2:00 bedtime, it was worse -- I waited til 3:00 a.m. that night, then 2:30 last night. DUMB!!! It isn't like the moon is suddenly going to move faster! So I am giving up. But next month, hopefully it will be clear and I can visit friends at the full moon as they live on the south end of the island and get the entire arc. @jo13 Thanks Jo -- I was happy with the details -- made me like my lens a lot more than I realized. @sailingmusic Thanks for the fav, Myrna -- made my day! @calm Thanks Cathy!
@egoistka@elaine55@hettie Thanks Svetlana, Elaine, and Hettie, for your comments, views, and the favs, Sv and hettie! Elaine, I'm glad you went back to this -- I'll be viewing in spurts til I get back home and into my routine again.
@barbsmith@michaelelliott@lisay Thank you Barb, Michael, and Lisa! I'm much more interested in how to capture interesting moon shots after being on 365 these past 6 months. I appreciate your fav (Michael and Lisa) -- very reinforcing.
This is amazing! I haven't quite figured out moon shots at all yet and I really love yours.
I'm your get pushed partner this week. My challenge for you is street photography. I hope you enjoy!
