I was at a loss today to photograph something worthy of 9/11 remembrance and especially limited essentially to my office and the rest of the building. I just knew I wanted something reflecting a sombre tone and maybe some metaphorical image of ... I wasn't sure. I liked the way this one turned out -- the long hallway, the light, the tiny silhouette who seems to be waiting, the darkness, the mood more than anything.
My only hesitation was posting something I'd shot before, but when I went back to compare the images, it wasn't even close. I can't believe how little I knew about photography just 7 and a half months ago! The link to the original (embarrassing though it is) is Feb 1 ( http://365project.org/taffy/365/2013-02-01), if you're curious.
I hope my U.S. 365 friends have had a peaceful day of remembrance and reflection. The postings have been so moving and brought back so many sad memories of that fateful time.
Wow.wow.This is the most powerful 911 photo I have seen here today. It is evocative. On the one hand it makes me think of those that were trapped in the towers and on the other...It makes me think of the future. The proverbial light at the end of the tunnel.Or perhaps an afterlife.Just really powerful...and disturbing. And that is a good thing.Because we need to remember.
very cool, love the contrast, I reminds me of the 03 level on the Aircraft Carriers I served on during my time in the Navy, those halls seemed like they went on for ever, very closed in awesome shot
A really moving and thought provoking image given the subject matter this is a really really great shot! Love the subject matter given the date. You should be really proud of this shot.
I love this, your processing is fab and it looks really great large on a black background. You have learnt a lot in 7 1/2 months. So rewarding this 365 thing :) well done.
What a moving shot. well done!!
My in-laws were waiting at our house to return to Nantucket to get their check for their house they had just sold. The buyer's $$ couldn't be gotten out of NY for over a week so they were with us just waiting not knowing if they would ever get paid for selling their house and ever be able to actually move to Ohio. Weird that our stories are so alike!!
Taffy, your image says so much. The tones and light perfectly capture the sentiment and feelings of 9/11. Thank you for posting such a moving picture. FAV.
Lovely post for 911...so much different and more atmospheric than your previous one of the corridor - you have grown indeed. (seems like few people have actually posted commemorative pics, but I was 1 of those who tried: )
Nice pic for the day in a separate album--I ended up with a thread idea and how delicate we all are. I had family on the way into the city that day. It was awful--and to hear them recount the day and everything, I cry and mourn every time--some things I do wish to forget sadly. My brother plays taps every 9/11 in public places at the precise times of the planes hitting in all of the locations. Last year, he was on the subway platform. The year before, on the beach, in a church, and on the street. It's one of the most engaging experiences I have ever witnessed to see him pour out all that mourning in the mouth of an instrument--and to watch the observers, well, it's moving.
Really great tribute. The processing is really great, it feels like it´s pulling me in to the end and somehow it looks longer than in original version, fav!
