Daylight savings time means it's dark before 5:00. Half-empty cup view: Darn -- daytime shots are going to be even harder! Half-full cup view: Yay -- more time for night shots! This was taken after teaching tonite -- about 8:15 p.m. looking down Harrison Street in front of the College of Education. Long past the golden hour, it looked more like the orange hour, I thought. I upped the contrasts but tried to keep the color pretty much the way it looked to me. RAW seems to me to fade things out.

@mzzhope Ah -- but this was handheld!! Amazingly! I think because there were so many streetlights, and the rain, meant a lot more ambient light than normal. I think it would be cool to do this shot with a tripod, really small aperture and long exposure. I may try that sometime when I can get my husband or someone to stand with me. Not a good idea to be there on my own too long after classes have let out because of my long walk across an empty parking lot to my house!
Love the vibrant orange colors! I know what you mean about daylight savings--hate that it's dark so early. On the other hand, mornings start out lighter so it's a bit easier to get up early.
All that falming orange tones and especially that glow on the road, beautifully captured. I´m not very good at night shots so I too struggle with the lack of light.
Just gorgeous! Love that Orange glow! I haven't really tried night time shots as I am always a bit scared going out with my gear in the dark. I am missing such a lot. I think I must give it a go!
Beautiful orange glow, I know what you mean, I'm going to have to get a lot more creative here in London also, might have to actually use my tripod out there too at some stage !!
I need to have a word with your boss, they are working you too hard!! This is a fabulous shot full of symmetry and strong lines with the best of nature acting as a reminder that the world cannot be completely symmetrical. What a chilling thought!
@taffy
I've recently got into night photography but a long exposure and a small aperture is a trade-off against the great DOF you have in this shot, which for me really pops when viewed large. Great shot!
Gorgeous orange glow! Great shot especially hand held! I have found this week while trying to do night time shots and light trails that the lampposts are giving this orange glow in the photos much more than it looks to my eye. I have changed the WB to auto and it looks more natural but not as attractive. I couldn't make up my mind if I should leave it or not. Looking at your shot I love the Orange glow!
