Taken today at the Cathedral Saint-Sauveur in Aix-En-Provence. This cathedral has three naves -- quite an amazing place architecturally. The entire city was a photo paradise for someone and is just a beautiful city to roam. Bill, Jim, and I spent the day there as it was close to Marseilles where we were picking up Junko @jyokota tonight. My photo buddy has arrived! Things will be in balance -- 2 photographers, two photography-supportive spouses. Tomorrow is market day in Vaisson-la-Romaine. The possibilities never end...
I so appreciate the comments from those of you following my visit to France. Thank you for the time you are spending commenting. It will take me awhile, but I'll catch up eventually!
This photo is much nicer than the one on wikipaedia! I was trying to find out what the ceiling was built of but can't find out!. Its is so impressive and has, I read so many precious works!
Love the architecture and shot Fav! I've been out of the scene lately and now visiting my mom in FL. But when I get back I'll be out there shooting again.
Grandeur indeed...and so well captured! Very sharp for a (most likely) handheld shot at 1/30 - but that is how I know you by now! I love this composition and the wide angle distortion...it really conveys the sense of height and size...although some people may prefer the wide angle distortion to be taken away. I know you have the software and know-how to do that, but I think much of the atmosphere will be lost in the process.
@ericdibosco I couldn't have said that better, Eric! This space is stunning, and I love that it envelops the viewer! Your picture (as always...you never disappoint!) is glorious! Will you explain your thought process here... I think of f2.8 for extreme closeups, though you may have chosen that for gathering all the light possible. Then why such a high speed? You know I'm currently trying to absorb all I can and utilize it as best possible in my own photos. Don't want to steal your precious holiday time, but let me know sometime? Enjoy enjoy!
Your wide angle shot emphasizes the scale of the interior so well! Amazing lighting too which is often hard to get inside these cavernous cathedrals. Enjoy your Southern France experience- such a wonderous place and perfect time to be there.
Wonderful, wonderful shot. Great comp and the different colors are so great. Beautiful lighting. You've brought me back through this shot to my graduation year when I was about 19. I spent a couple of weeks in Aix en Provence at the summerschool to upgrade my french. Great memories of sun, sea, churches, lavender and parties. Can't remeber much about the french classes I took but luckily I learned to speak it a bit :)
What a beautiful place, Taffy. Love the detail you captured and the angle that you took this shot. I would love to see this in person but so happy to follow your journey. Hope you and your photo buddy and spouses are having a great time. I look forward to seeing some market photos and everything else you post on your trip. FAV
Fabulous image Taffy! What a stunning place - you must be in heaven! Your trip sounds wonderful and can only get better when your photo buddy gets there! Fav!
Great shot of the interior of this beautiful cathedral! Love the arches.... it must be so amazing out there.....didn't Cezanne live and paint in that town??!!
Great shot, I love how all the surfaces are well lit and sharply textured, with all the subtle differences in light and colour in the different spaces.
