I'll add more description later, as we are at Heathrow and heading out momentarily. This was, to me, the most magnificent setting for a concert that I have ever seen. In Barcelona, this venue brings in world recognized musicians in a setting with amazing acoustics and lighting that is just unreal. I can't believe our trip is over, almost...I've enjoyed sharing it and am fairly certain I'll be posting over the week as I've barely downloaded all the photos and have looked at only a tiny proportion.
Updated info -- so one of the perks of the tour was watching the orchestra rehearsal for that night's John Williams concert, getting to hear the Star Wars theme in full force in the concert hall.
Thanks for staying with me on this trip! Commenting should resume once jet lag is over!
Oh wow, this is magnificent...not sure if it is the music hall or your picture! :)
No, really, this is a magnificent capture of a magnificent structure. You have really done the colour, the lighting and the detail justice with your careful composition and excellent HDR processing. Looking at the EXIF, I guess that you have also done some lens perspective correction (or whatever it is called!). Big Fav!
Oh I knew you'd come up with the goods, this is a stunning all over viewpoint of one of Barcelona's most gorgeous buildings! We were lucky to catch a recital here one year. Wish I could triple fave.
When I saw this my heart soared at the thought of attending a concert in this incredibly beautiful concert hall! What a magnificent photo! I'm in love with it. FAV!
I am a huge fan of seating...weird I know...but this is such a stunner! Think of you and others as they head off to land of Japan soon. Can't wait to witness it through the eyes of those I consider close friends -- Kira leaves June 2nd and we are emotional about being without her even though she'll be in great hands. I love this shot. So wonderful in the detail above and below.
Sony stunning! The building and your shot! What an incredible experience to hear the orchestra playing! Wow! Fav! Have really enjoyed travelling with you!
Wow, wow, wow, is just what I said. I love this photo. I want to be able to photograph like you do. The detail you captured here is fabulous, Taffy. How cool to hear the rehearsal for a John Williams concert. I bet it sounded amazing. My son is in a local Jazz band and when they have performances I love going and hearing the music. Nothing like this though. He would love this. I have to show this to him next time he is over. FAV
I can't stop staring at the detail! I can hardly imagine how wonderful it would be to sit within that space and hear John Williams music! I'm so glad you've been our group leader on your trip!
This is fabulous. I heard about this building when it was too late to fit it in to our short stay there. I'm so glad you posted it - now I'll just have to go back!
@darylo I thought of you when I was there -- you would have loved all the angles to capture the seats with such amazing backgrounds. The stained glass was so striking. We'll miss you in Japan -- it would be fun to do a photo walk together somewhere in the world -- or in one of our home towns!
@taffy As part of turning 50, I have a trip to Bali in my sights for summer of 2015. Bucket list item: surf board lesson. I also have a friend who lives there and said I could come visit, so it might be my only chance to do it and actually afford it. :)
@darylo Ah...50 seems quite young to me now! You have lots of time for travel ahead!! Bali is going to be fantastic -- once there, it's relatively reasonable. I had the opportunity to spend 5 weeks working with teachers at Jarkata International School and then again for 3 weeks a few years later. Decades later, I'm still quite close to the former curriculum leader (who is now in Texas) and we traveled back together around our 50th birthdays. I had no photo skills to speak of, and would love the chance to go back and see it through my much more observant eyes now. I hope this works out for you -- what a special place to be able to visit!
@elaine55 Thanks Elaine! Yes, almost all the shots from this trip (all in fact) were handheld. There just wasn't a way to use a tripod in the places we were -- not allowed, or inappropriate. Sometimes I used the back of a chair but mostly I just held my breath.
@willowdragon You'll love it there!! Definitely take the tour -- it's well well worth it and was a high point for all four of us, even non-photographers. And the cathedral is free on Sundays -- just check times to avoid mass (or plan to go to mass instead). Have a GREAT trip!!
@willowdragon Oh, that won't be an issue at all. I think the cathedral is free on Sundays and asks for a donation otherwise, but it won't be that much. Worth it to go inside. The other thing is to check online before hand as you can reserve your tour in the language you prefer and not have to wait in line at all, anywhere. The Joan Miro foundation/art museum was also wonderful -- about a 20 euro cab ride away, but I'm guessing there are less expensive ways to get there. We had four of us sharing costs so took a cab most of the time when we needed to go a distance. You should look at @jborrases album if you've not done so already. He has stunning photos and is from Barcelona.
@taffy@willowdragon thank you very much. I'm very honored. If you are close to the center. You should try to rent a bike for a day. I use one to move along the city for my daily photos. In the case of Joan Miró Foundation you can take bus line number 55 from Plaça Catalunya. There is an option of buy a one day ticket that grants you access to all public transportation services, except taxis ;) for an entire day , they are available on subway expeding machines. These tickets are called " T-Dia" ( T-Day). Perhaps Barcelona is a safe city almost time be careful about your bags / cameras / phones while enter on subway or resting on a terrace mainly in center area / station. Relax and enjoy the city. :)
